Welcome to Autodesk Quantity Takeoff 2013 (QTO). Using QTO, you can produce detailed quantity takeoff for material, labor, and other resources to accurately estimate and bid on construction and renovation projects. With QTO, you can spend less time counting and measuring items in your projects, giving you more time to analyze projects and their costs.

If you are just beginning to use QTO, read the information in the QTO Basics section to learn about important concepts, tools, and features that can help you get started quickly. If you prefer to learn about QTO through hands-on exercises, use the Getting Started Guide, which is available from the Help menu in QTO.

Quantity Takeoff

Autodesk® Quantity Takeoff software enables cost estimators to easily bring together design data, high-quality images, and precise design information from intelligent design applications such as AutoCAD®, Revit® Architecture, and AutoCAD® Civil 3D®, as well as from nonintelligent CAD data and image formats such as .jpg and .tif.

With Quantity Takeoff, estimators can leverage property data to automatically or manually measure, count, and price building objects such as walls, doors, and windows. The results can be printed, exported to Microsoft® Excel®, or published to Autodesk® DWF™. In this way, Autodesk Quantity Takeoff comprehensively supports the design-to-cost-estimating workflow.

Autodesk Quantity Takeoff has the following capabilities

  • Quickly and easily count and quantify all of your design data
  • Search takeoff allows for rapid takeoff of similar drawing objects
  • Manual takeoff support for image files such as .jpg, .tif, and .pdf
  • Mark up and round-trip your comments with integrated redlining tools
  • Visual cross-referencing enable you to locate a single item across all project documents with a single click
  • Unlimited component sub-assemblies allow you to categorize and count materials to a virtually infinite level of detail

Quantity Takeoff is currently only available in North America.



Autodesk Quantity Takeoff: Did you know there are Shortcut Keys

The other day a good question came in on the Ask Jason site inquiring about speeding things up in Autodesk Quantity Takeoff (QTO) while doing manual takeoffs. So that got me thinking about how many others many need to know about the shortcut keys in QTO.

2-14-2011-QTO1Have you ever stopped to hover over a tool and like Linear or Area takeoff and noticed a single letter after the tool description? Well that would be the Shortcut key, just waiting for you to press the key to activate it.

Here is a quick list of the Shortcuts Keys, that you can select anytime:

  • Navigation and Selection Tools:
    • (N) Select
    • (P) Pan
    • (Z) Zoom/Zoom Window
    • (O)Orbit/Turntable
  • Model Takeoff Tools:
    • (M) Model Takeoff
    • (R) Search Takeoff
    • (G) Single-Click Auto Takeoff
  • 2D Takeoff Tools:
    • (L) Linear Takeoff tool group
    • (A) Area Takeoff tool group
    • (C) Count Takeoff
    • (B) Backout Takeoff tool group
  • Markup Tools:
    • (D) Shape
    • (T) Text
    • (Y) Callout
    • (S) Stamp

Additional Tools for 2D or Manual Takeoffs: 

  • Panning During Takeoff: Sometimes you need to "pause" your manual takeoff and Pan around your drawing. Pressing the Spacebar will pause your takeoff and activate the Pan tool, allowing you to move freely around the drawing. Release the Spacebar to return to your active takeoff.
  • Changing Directions of an Arc: During Linear takeoff and while using the Arc tool you may want to change the direction of the Arc without having to exit and start over. Pressing (O) while in the Linear Arc mode will change directions of  the Arc. Press (O) to change the direction back
  • Ortho Mode (aka straight lines): During Linear or Area Takeoff, holding the Shift Key down will allow you to enter into temporary Ortho mode, which will help you to create straighter lines. Release the Shift Key to exit out of Temporary Ortho mode
